Norfolk County's District Court divisions in Brookline, Dedham, Quincy, Stoughton and Wrentham each have at least one approved mediation program; statewide, the District Court offers mediation in 56 of its 62 divisions [1]. Among the Probate and Family Court's approved programs for Norfolk is the Norfolk County Bar Conciliation Program in Braintree, which charges a $150 administrative fee per party, with a sliding scale or waiver possible [2]. Probation officers there also run free on-site dispute intervention, which a judge may order [2]. Juvenile Court mediation comes from the Harvard Mediation Program, MetroWest Mediation Services and Metropolitan Mediation Services [3]. All three of our Norfolk listings are railroad and airline arbitrators on the National Mediation Board's contact list [4].

Court-connected mediation in Massachusetts: Massachusetts courts approve mediation programs rather than individual mediators, and each court department lists its approved programs. The statewide rule that sets neutral qualifications (SJC Rule 1:18) was not reviewed.
Private mediation in Massachusetts: No state license for private mediators was found in the sources reviewed. A statute makes mediation communications confidential when the mediator has 30 hours of training plus experience or program affiliation, or is court-appointed.
