Child support calculator by state
Every state sets child support by its own guideline. Pick yours: where we’ve matched the state’s official numbers you get a calculator that shows each step with its citation; everywhere else, the rule in plain English from the official text and a link to the state’s own calculator.
How is child support calculated?
Each state sets it by its own guideline. In 32 of the 42 states we’ve verified, it’s income shares: both parents’ incomes are added, a state table gives the support for that income and number of children, and each parent owes their share.[1–50] 7 use a percentage of the paying parent’s income, and Delaware, Hawaii, and Montana use the Melson formula.[2–49]

Questions
How is child support calculated?
Each state publishes a guideline. In 32 of the 42 states we've verified it's income shares: both parents' incomes are added, a state table gives the support for that income and number of children, and each parent owes their share. 7 use a percentage of the paying parent's income, and 3 use the Melson formula. Open your state for its exact rule.
Why isn't there a calculator for my state?
We publish a calculator only when it reproduces the state's official numbers exactly, tested against its own calculator, tax charts, schedule or worked examples. Until then the state page explains the rule from the official text and links the official calculator.
Is the result what a court will order?
No. It's an estimate from the published guideline. Courts apply the guideline to the evidence and can depart from it for reasons the law allows. Confirm with your state's official calculator. Not legal advice.
