In St. Mary's County, the Circuit Court in Leonardtown orders parties in contested child custody and child access cases to mediation when the case is appropriate for it.[5] The clerk's Family Services Program refers these cases to court-approved mediators at Community Mediation of St. Mary's, who work in pairs as co-mediators.[5] A Family Services Jurisdictional Grant pays for the program, and Community Mediation of St. Mary's does not charge a fee.[5] According to the Judiciary's MACRO office, the circuit court can also use mediation or settlement conferences in non-family civil cases, and ADR services in the District Court are free to participants.[6] Most mediators listed below come from MACRO's Mediator Excellence directory and its Circuit Court Roster.[7][2]
