How does mediation work in Eaton County?
Eaton County has been its own circuit, the 56th Circuit Court, since 1991; its Family Division hears domestic cases.[3] The county's trial courts run mediation under an ADR plan adopted as Local Administrative Order 2014-03.[4] Before issuing a scheduling order, the assigned judge decides whether a case suits case evaluation or mediation, and may refer civil cases to general civil mediation and contested domestic relations issues to domestic relations mediation.[4] If the parties cannot agree on a mediator within 14 days of the scheduling order, the judge appoints the next available one from the ADR Clerk's approved list.[4] Parties agree on the hourly fee in writing beforehand, and in domestic relations mediation each pays half unless a party objects.[4] Mediators listed below appear on other circuit courts' approved lists, mainly Calhoun County's.[5]
