How does mediation work in Northampton County?

In Northampton County, custody disputes are heard by the Court of Common Pleas in Easton (610-829-6500): parties present their petition in Motions Court, then schedule a conference through the Civil Division with one of the court's two custody conference officers.[2] If the parents agree, the officer prepares a custody order for the President Judge's signature.[2] If they do not, they must schedule and attend a mediation session with an officer of the court or one of the judges, and only if mediation fails may the case be listed for a non-jury trial.[2] The court also runs a Co-Parent Education (COPE) Program, in place since 1992 and now governed by Administrative Order 2023-969.[3] Most mediators listed below are on the federal Eastern District of Pennsylvania's attorney mediation panel.[1]
