Court-connected mediation in Tennessee: When a Tennessee court orders Rule 31 mediation and the parties don't pick a listed Rule 31 mediator together, the judge names three from the AOC's statewide list and each side strikes one name.

Private mediation in Tennessee: Rule 31 says its standards cover only mediations and mediators under that rule, not private mediation outside it. The ADR Commission may waive training for a mediator approved and in good standing in another state.
