How does mediation work in Charles County?
In Charles County, civil and family cases are heard by the Circuit Court in La Plata, which MACRO lists as running ADR programs for both family and non-family civil cases.[3] According to the court's family services page, parents who disagree about custody or visitation are ordered to mediation with an assigned private mediator.[4] That mediator list draws on both lawyers and mental health professionals trained in mediation.[4] Parties who cannot afford the mediator's fee may ask Family Support Services for a waiver.[4] For complicated marital property issues, the court may also order separate property mediation with attorney mediators.[4] The Charles mediators below are on the Judiciary's MACRO statewide roster, as of October 2026.[2]
