How does mediation work in Ottawa County?
Ottawa County's 20th Circuit Court runs a court-annexed ADR plan adopted under MCR 2.410 and Local Administrative Order 2002-1, and all civil cases are subject to ADR unless a statute or court rule provides otherwise.[9] The court may refer any civil action to mediation under MCR 2.411 and any contested domestic relations issue under MCR 3.216, and it screens most civil and domestic cases for case evaluation or mediation before issuing a scheduling order.[9] After a referral, parties have 14 days to choose a mediator from the court-approved list, or the ADR Clerk assigns one by rotation.[9] Mediators charge an hourly rate the parties agree to in writing beforehand, and the court takes steps to make mediation available to indigent litigants.[9] Listings below include mediators on the court's civil and domestic relations mediator lists.[2][10]
