How this list is built: these are certified family mediators whose official Michigan roster record lists an attorney or in-state Bar member background. In mediation they work as neutrals: a mediator doesn’t represent or advise either side, even if they’re a lawyer. If you want legal advice about your own case, hire your own attorney. In Washtenaw County, mediation in court cases follows the Michigan Court Rules. For civil cases referred under MCR 2.411, parties may agree on a mediator; if they do not tell the ADR clerk by the date in the referral order, the court appoints one from its approved list in rotation.[9] Under MCR 3.216, the court may send any contested issue in a domestic relations case, including post-judgment matters, to mediation on stipulation, on a party's motion or on its own initiative, but not without a hearing when a personal protection order or a child abuse and neglect case is involved.[9] The Washtenaw County Trial Court publishes lists of approved civil and domestic relations mediators, updated January 2026, that show each mediator's hourly rate.[5][1] Most listings below come from those two lists.[5][1]

Court-connected mediation in Michigan: Michigan circuit courts keep their own lists of mediators who met court-rule training requirements, and court clerks appoint only from those lists. Some courts encourage parties to pick their own mediator; the court rules themselves were not reviewed.
Private mediation in Michigan: No state license for private mediators was found in the sources reviewed. A State Bar of Michigan ethics opinion says a lawyer-mediator may not draft all the divorce papers for both parties while acting only as mediator.
