Online mediators

An online mediator meets with you by video or phone instead of in an office. Every mediator here is on an official court or government roster, which we link and date. Where they work online is their own statement, shown separately and never as a certification.

Online listings are new. Mediators add the states they serve online when they claim their free listing, so this list is short for now. Local mediators may also offer video sessions; ask when you contact them.

Online mediators by state

Each state page lists mediators on that state’s official rosters first, then mediators from other states who say they work online with its clients.

What is an online mediator?

An online mediator is a neutral person who runs mediation sessions by video or phone instead of in an office. The mediator helps both sides talk through the issues and write down any agreement, but doesn't decide the case or give either side legal advice. Some mediators work only online; others offer both.

Can I use an online mediator from another state?

For private mediation, often yes. Where a mediator is certified and where they work with clients online are separate questions, and the rules for private mediation differ by state. Court-ordered cases are stricter: a court may require a mediator from its own approved list. Check your court order or your state's page before you choose.

Is an agreement made in online mediation binding?

It can be, depending on how it is written, signed and, in a court case, approved. Federal law generally lets electronic signatures count, but it leaves out state family-law rules and official court documents. So ask your mediator how signing works for your kind of case and in your state.[1][2]

How do I choose an online mediator?

Check that the mediator handles your type of case and confirm their roster status on the official source we link. Then ask which video platform they use, how private breakout rooms work, how documents are shared and signed, and what they charge. If a court ordered mediation, first confirm the mediator meets its requirements.

What do I need for an online mediation session?

You need a private, quiet room, a device with a camera and microphone, a steady internet connection and your documents within reach. Test the video link before the session, use headphones if others are nearby, and agree on a backup, such as a phone number, in case the connection drops.
